News Item 12 – (27 March 2016)

North Dakota Players,

The NDRA 2015-2016 season just came to a close with the ending of the State tournament held at Bismarck last weekend.  For final results, go to the NDRA website and click on tournament results, and then the link.  For a quick view of the division champions, go to the NDRA site and click on “Past Champions” and the 2016 link.  At the Saturday dinner, we announced the two annual Sportsmanship winners, which were Bud Hornaday from Minot, and Paul Rokke from Fargo.  We also announced the Series winners, they were Brian Knowles from Minot in the Open division (for the second straight year), Brad Gulbranson from Minot in the A division.  The intent of the tournament series was to increase tournament participation with the winners of the board approved divisions getting a gift from the NDRA.  A special thank you to those tournament directors who put in plenty of hours to make the tournament experience something special.  Lastly, if you have any thoughts to add for future consideration on increasing tournament play, please feel free to e-mail me at knowles007@yahoo.com and I'll pass it on to the NDRA board members.  Contact me for questions, and as always, "See you on the Courts".

News Item 10 – (3 October 2014)

North Dakota Players,

The 2014-2015 season will get under way starting with the Minot Open IRT Tier 4 tournament on 31 October.  On the NDRA website, you will see hyperlinks to the US Open (8-12 Oct), the Minot Open (31 Oct-2 Nov), and the Choice Classic (14-16 Nov).  Click on the applicable JPEG to take you to the tournament main page.  Also, when checking out the NDRA tournament schedule, notice that FIVE of the tournaments are underlined.  These tournaments are part of the NEW Tournament Series.  Your NDRA board members worked hard to come up with a way to increase tournament participation especially to get players to travel for a tournament or two.  So, we came up with the tournament series.  I think this is a good start to increasing tournament play, and we can only get better as time goes on.  If you have any thoughts to add for future consideration on increasing tournament play, please feel free to e-mail me at knowles007@yahoo.com and I'll pass it on to the NDRA board members.  Contact me for questions, and as always, "See you on the Courts".

News Item 9 – (20 May 2014)

North Dakota Players,

As the 2013-2014 season winds down, I would like to pass on a special thanks to the Fargo YMCA players for making the 2014 North Dakota Racquetball Championships a success.  I thought the YMCA was a fabulous facility and the courts were awesome.  Granted they were pretty hot, but they played fast which is how I like it.  Also, congrats to the individual State Champions.  For a list of Champions, go to “Past Champions” on this website.  For all tournament results, go to “Tournament Results” and select which tournament you are looking for.  Finally, enjoy your “short” summer and before long, I’ll have the 2014-2015 schedule posted.  Oh, one more thing, if you are interested in the US Open at Minneapolis, I have a hyperlink to the tournament main page on the NDRA main page.  Just click on the US Open picture.

News Item 8 – (9 October 2013)

North Dakota players,

Congrats to those players who went to Minneapolis to participate in the US Open.  Several individuals were successful in their applicable divisions.  Tom Janke from Fargo was a huge winner, and Brian Knowles and Kyle Beck from Minot placed second in their doubles division.  Also, there are several tournaments coming up for those geared up for further tournament play.  Grand Forks is having their Burger King Open from 8-10 November, Minot is having their IRT Tier 4 Pro/Am 22-24 November, and finally, Grand Forks is also having their Happy Joe's Open tournament 6-8 December.  Currently, the Burger King Open is listed in R2Sports as well as there is a hyperlink on the NDRA website.  I'll have the Minot IRT available for registration this week.  Let me know if you have any questions.  Congrats again to those who participated in the US Open.  It is an awesome event to not only see, but also participate in.

News Item 7 – (12 April 2013)

North Dakota players,

The 2012-2013 ND season came to a close with the 2013 NDRA Racquetball Championships which was held at the Choice Health & Fitness club at Grand Forks.  What a tournament!  The matches were competitive and the hospitality was outstanding.  If you didn’t make the tournament, not only did you miss out competing to see who was the best in ND, but you also missed an opportunity to check out the huge facility.  As of right now, the next NDRA/USAR sanctioned tournament will be the Mouse River Indoor/Outdoor Classic held at Minot in August.  The date has yet to be determined.  Additionally, the 2013-2014 schedule should be ready for review later this summer as well.  There are also plans to have a “Team” match between Minot and Grand Forks.  Details are being worked out, however, the initial plan is to have the matchup similar to Collegiate with singles and doubles teams.  The players would be ranked from top to bottom, not Open, A, etc.  It would be possibly a one day event with head to head matchups.  If it works out, then possibly other cities in ND (Fargo, Bismarck, Dickinson) could give it a try.  Anyway, more good things on the horizon for ND racquetball.  Talk to you soon!

The 2012-2013 season is winding down with only two North Dakota tournaments remaining.  On 22-24 March, the annual March Madness tournament at Fargo will be held.  Also, from 5-7 April, the 2013 North Dakota State Championships will be held at the new Grand Forks facility – Choice Health & Fitness.  Court time pending, the plan is to offer two singles divisions (skill and age), and also a doubles division (skill).  The tournament main page will take registration within the next week.  See you at those two tournaments!

News Item 3 – (17 January 2012)

North Dakota players,

The 2011-2012 season racquetball schedule is now in full swing with some upcoming tournaments in January, February, and March.  Check out the tournament schedule LINK on this website to see upcoming North Dakota tournaments as well as some in the surrounding area.  Also, in case you did not see the tournament schedule, the 2012 ND State tournament will be held in Bismarck from 23-25 March.  Currently, the Bismarck tournament is getting ready to start this Friday (20 January), then next will be the Deek’s Open at Grand Forks.  This will probably be the last tournament at the current facility due to a new facility being built.  So, if you have played many years at the CCFC, try to make this one.  Courts Plus will have their annual March Madness event the beginning of March, then we get ready a couple weeks later for the State tournament.  Hope to see you at the tournaments!

News Item 2 – (24 August 2011)

North Dakota players,

The 2011-2012 season schedule is now listed under the tournament schedule link on the left hand side on the NDRA website.  Also, I added some other tournaments (either non-sanctioned or in Minnesota and Canada).  Lastly, we are trying a new type of tournament in October.  Basically, you will be entering a skill division (either Open, A/B, or B/C), your team will have one player in each of the three divisions.  You will accumulate points depending how you do in your matches.  At the end, we will give out a Team trophy that will be used in subsequent years.  The name of the tournament is in memory of a long time great racquetball player named Donn Skadeland who died in a tragic plane crash.  We are planning on giving much of the proceeds to Williston State College in Donn Skadeland’s name.  I’ll shoot out an e-mail when the tournament is posted on R2Sports.com and our NDRA website.
